Ecotourism

Travel and tourism is one of the largest industries in the world and ecotourism is its fastest growing sector. In fact ecotourism is a comparatively novel idea which has only recently flown into the radar of numerous travelers from around the world.

What is ecotourism? Ecotourism is conscientious travel to the natural regions of the world,  conserving the environment and working in the interests of the local people. If you walk in a rainforest it will not be considered ecotourism except if it is benefitting the environment and the people living there.

Ecotourism

Ecotourism has a different meaning for different people. It is a dedicated, niche market that has emerged within the tourism industry, and includes adventure travel as well as nature tourism to exotic places like the rainforests around the globe. Ecotourism to some may be ecologically-responsible tourism, a more passive form where you 'tread carefully',  while for others it is green, environmentally productive, responsible and sustainable tourism where you actually pitch in and do what you can, while you're there.

Ecotourism is fast becoming a foremost approach for developing countries to attract foreign income to help them preserve their rainforests. Eco tourists spend money to see the natural beauty of the country and this assists in giving an economic boost to preservation of their rainforests.

Sustainable ecotourism needs cautious planning with very strict guidelines, as it is very easy to doom rainforests with short-term development. One has to understand that too many people, with poor management (even though they might have the best of intentions) can be the end of ‘eco’ in ecotourism. There are several ecotourism projects around the world, a very popular one is the Kilimanjaro Ecotourism Project.

If you are looking for an international ecotourism vacation all you have to do is to search the internet or talk to your local travel agent, it has become an accepted and large part of the tourism industry and almost any travel agent will be able to help you with eco-travel.
